Question
I have a almost 2 year old female jack russell terrier, and we just went camping/canoeing this past weekend, and now I noticed her pads on her paws are worn down, pink and swollen. She isn't limping, she isn't licking them a lot like they hurt or anything, they aren't bleeding and there's no puss. Should I be concerned? I thought about getting some of that paw protector cream that you rub on their paws to heal cuts etc. and protects them from damage. What do you think?

Answer
Hi Vanessa!  It sounds as though maybe her paws are just a bit irritated.  While camping, was she walking on alot of rocks and pine needles and sticks?  This may have been a little rough on those little feet.  Getting that cream sounds like a good idea.  You can also try Bag-A-Balm ointment that you can get at any drug store.  As long as they aren't cracked, pusy, bleeding, or causing obvious discomfort, there should be no need to worry.  If you do see any of these signs, getting her to your veterinarian for antibiotics should clear it up.  Until then....tell her to put her feet up and enjoy the princess treatment!
I hope this helps and I hope that adorable little girl's tootsies are feeling 100% real soon!
