British Blue 15yrs

Question
Hello,
I have a pedigree british blue cat, she is 15yrs old and I rescued her from an animal shelter 18 moths ago. She has a small heart murmur and only one kidney works properly. I was told at the time of taking her on that she would proberbly only live for another 6-8 months. Scince being with me she has gained some weight and is more lively than she was. my concern with her now is within the last week or so whilst she is sleeping her left eye weeps excessivly. this is a clear liqued that I would summise is tears. she is fine when awake and other than those health issues stated above there are no other problems. I was wondering if this is common in a cat of this breed, as I have always had moggies in the past, I do not know of the problems associated with a particular pedigree.
Please advise me as wether this is somthing to consult my vet about or if this is just old age.
thank you for your time
Paul.

Answer
Hi Paul!

First of make an appt to see your vet. Have some bloodwork done and a echocardiogram if you can. You just don't want to take the shelters word for her issues, have a second diagnosis.

The tears could be a clogged tear duct since the tears are clear. the more flat faced a cat, the more likely they have problems with their tear ducts.

Hope this helps
