Question
I have a 5 mo old chi.  She is very sweet and mild mannered.  Loves people, kids and other animals.  She has a habit of acting like she is biting her foot and making growling noises, when i tell her no.  Sometimes she will do this when she is just lying beside me.   Is this normal? Thank you

Answer
Self-mutilation is not normal. Playing with her own foot is. Give her a toy when she does it and tell her she is a good girl when she takes it from you.

Scolding her will do no good as she doesn't know what she is doing wrong. She is probably just playing like dogs that chase their tails.

Get her a fun toy and give it to her right away, telling her what a good girls she is in a high pitched, sweet voice. She may just forget all about her foot.

However, if it persists, then have your vet look at it on her next visit. If she isn't spayed yet then that would be a good time to have it looked at, in the next month or so.
