Question
I have a cat that I found 6 months ago. SHe had a stool sample test and found nothing. Before I go further w/ testing I'd like to know if this is something I can keep simple. She's a young Torti. She has a bloated stomach, and diarrhea all the time. I've tried Z/D, I/D science diet food. Still not any better. WHat do you think?

Answer
I would recommend an all-natural diet that does not have corn or soy in it such as Prairie by Nature's Variety www.naturesvariety.com as well as adding Digestive Enzymes to her diet to help her process her food more efficiently.  I use Dancin Paws Shake'N'Zyme www.dancingpaws.com along with the Prairie for my cats, one of which has Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and they do quite well on it.

I would also recommend having another stool sample checked as one negative sample in a stray cat is not enough to rule out any intestinal parasites.  I would highly recommend deworming with Panacur, once a day for 5 days to be on the safe side regardless of a negative stool sample.   And sometimes a course of Flagyl (Metronidazole) is needed to treat the overgrowth of bacteria in the intestines.

If problems continue, then I would suggest a CBC, Chem Screen with Electrolytes, T4, B12/Folate and TLI blood tests be done.
