Question
my daughter has a puppy in Africa - she has a vet available - but there is a language barrier & he is rather far away.  She is concerned her puppy may have hook worms - is there medicine available online without a prescription?  I've sent her over the counter meds - she said they were for round worms - should she take a stool sample to vet to ascertain which worm she is dealing with - there is a lot of weird stuff that could be involved in Africa?  Any advice appreciated... lms

Answer
Hi Linda,
Taking a stool sample to the vet. is definity recommended. Like you mentioned above, by taking in a stool sample for the animal hospital to review under a microscope, they can see exactly which/ if any intestinal worms the puppy has. I think you can purchase Drontal Plus online. It is a good dewormer and it does get Hookworms as well as Roundworms and Whipworms. The puppy will need to be dewormed more than one time though, to make sure the worms are under under control. Hookworms stick to the lining of the intestines, thus causing puppies to look thin. Well take care and thanks for the question.
