Blood in stoll of cat

Question
I have a 2 year old female torti (spayed). She went to the bathroom in the house yesterday and it was pretty soft and I notice some blood in her stool. She eats fine, her vaccines are up to date. She is an indoor/outdoor cat and we have two other cats and a dog. Because she is outside alot of the time, I don't know what her stool is like normally. She still purrs and plays etc. Is this something to be extremely concerned about?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Kathy!  Since she is acting normally, I wouldn't think that this is an in depth health problem and is probably caused by one of two things.
Since she is an indoor/outdoor kitty, she may have picked up an intestinal parasite, which you will generally see soft stool with some blood incorporated in it.  A simple dewormer from your veterinarian will get rid of the intestinal parasite.
Another thing that may have caused this would be that she may have eaten something a little rough on her stomach. If this is the case, she should be fine within a day or two.
I would recommend having a fecal test done, just in case, as if this is an intestinal parasite, we definately don't want it to grow worse!
Please let me know how she does and give her kisses for me!
