Question
Miss Damphouse:
I am a happy owner of a 7 year yellow lab name Niko.
Niko lately has been licking is rear without fear and determination. He constantly leaves a wetspot every where he goes. What is it?
I feed him California Natural twice a day. He is a couch potato fairly excersice and in good shape. I have ask and some say is a deficientcy on his diet or lacking something. Could he have worms? Have you ever heard of such thing. If you do can you please point me out in the right direction. Thanks. Etienne

Answer
Dear Etienne, pets get into licking cycles for many reasons. Some have allergies, others are merely upset-because of a move, for example,or because there's another pet in the household. Some licking is normal, but occasionally ets will lick themselves so vigorously and for such a long time that they damage the underlying tissue, resulting in sores called granulomas and they can lead to serious infections. So if your pet is licking alot and
his skin seems red and sore call the vet right away. You may want to try putting your pet on different food-one that contains different ingredients than his normal food.Pet stores also sell topical anti-licking ointments that taste so bad that pets soon learn to keep their tongues where they belong.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please keep me posted and give that Niko get well kisses for me!Sending wagging tails your way!
