pet pain spray

Question
I've seen commercials for a "pet pain spray" as a homeopathic treatment to help relive joint pain in dogs.  I was wondering if this is safe and/or effective?  My dog is 12 with spinalosis(sp?) and is already on prescription medication for pain but I was wondering if there are any alternative or homeopathic treatments that may also help ease his discomfort.  Any vitamins or supplements that you could recommend would be really helpful!!  Thanks so much, Lauren
