Question
Very recently my dog has had episodes where her head will shake, much like a human does when he or she has parkinson's disease. It happens about once a week at random times and nothing seems to set it off.  She is a 1-year old black lab australian shepard mix.  Can canines have parkinson's, or is there some other sort of disease or palsey that can cause shaking in dogs?  Your help would be greatly aappreciated.  Thanks!

Answer
I would recommend having a CBC, Chem Screen with Electrolytes, T4 and Lyme Titer checked to rule out any underlying metabolic problems first.  This is most likely mini-seizure activity.  Dogs do not get Parkisons that I am aware of.

Make sure to feed an all-natural diet that is free of preservatives, dyes (especially red) and by-products.  I would also recommend supplementing her diet with B vitamins, B50 once a day.
