Question
has been vomiting, and trying to eat grass and spitting it out. does not want to eat. she has had all her shots. she chews on everything! all her doggie toys are chewed up...can this be the cause of  her vomiting?

Answer
Hi Judy!If he is chewing his own fur, more likely, she is allergic to something in the environment. When skin disease affects the rump and back, I tend to think of a flea allergy first. You should have a vet look at her to see if there is some medical treatment that will give her some relief.

As for him refusing food,I would HIGHLY recommend another veterinarian's opinion. Something is definately effecting her health and she can not go on just not eating.  date on Parvo is a canine virus that is contracted throughout dogs. If this dog is a carrier of the virus and he is not up to date on her vaccines, this would make her the perfect candidate to contract this virus, as she is showing all the symptoms. With this virus, or any viral infection it is extremely important to get medical attention. He will end up getting extremely dehydrated. You need to take her to a different vet ASAP, and get her some fluids and antibiotics.

As for the vomiting, make sure your dog has alot of water. If water makes him queasy let him lick an ice cube.To make sure he keeps it down, don't give him more than one for every 15 minutes.Make sure you keep the toilet seat down because its a double treat-an unlimited supply of water he shouldn't have and water thats chokefull of bacteria that will not help his situation.

Even after the vomiting stops your pet may not be feeling up to par.Kaopectate will helf sooth his stomach. As chalky and not ecactly delicious, but it works.Give one teaspoon of Kaopectate for each ten pounds of weight.

            FOR DOGS ONLY

Giving your pet pepto-bismol will help sooth his tummy just as it does yours.Vets recommend giving about one teaspoon for every twenty pounds of dog every four to six hours for up to two days.Dogs don't like it much, though,so don't be surprized if more ends up on you than in your dog.A neater solution is to use an oral syringe, which is available at pharmacys.Never give pepto-bismol to cats without a vets supervision. It contains ingredients cats don't metabolize well,so it could make them sicker.Since dosages very widely from pet to pet however be sure to ask your vet for advice.

Before using any of this information,be sure to ask your vet if it is OK.You can print this out or send it to his/her office.I hope this helps!Nicole.D.
