Question
My boston terrier Mugzie began her heat cycle about 3 weeks ago.  Last Wednesday or Thursday, she beegan to act lethargic, not leaving her bed much, and her appetite diminished. My husband and i had to leave town for the weekend, and upon returning she had not begun to feel or act any different.  I had originally thought maybe her female cycle made her uncomfortable, but by wednedsay this week it had not gotten better. Upon  further investigation and talking with the person who cared for mugzie while we were gone we realized neither of us had seen her have a bowel movemovement since Thursday last week. She finally did yesterday, when I had decicded to visit the local vet, and i figured her condition would improve now, but she stopped eating, and the vet is not open today. Is there anything i can do to bring on the bowel movements, or at least make her more comfortable until tommorow when I can take her to the vet?

Answer
Hi Christina.  I would definately get her to a veterinarian ASAP.  There is a uteran infection that attacks unspayed dogs called a Pyometra.  She is showing many symptoms of this infection.  This is a very serious illness and if she is suffering from a Pyometra, an emergency spay will be necessary.  The toxins in the infected uterus can have fatal effects if not treated.
Please let me know how Miss Mugzie does!
Sending millions of get well puppy kisses,
Hilary
