Question
hi marie...i have a one and a half year old tabby..since he was a baby i was very strict on his diet..i did considerable research and now only feed him nature's variety canned food..and thawed raw food...at first i thought he may have baby fat..like i somehow believed he might be human but now i am convinced he is overweight...i have reduced his quantity of food daily to two-thirds of a can (5.5oz) and 2oz of raw and fresh water..no human food or treats...i am very concerned he will not be a health adult...i would appreciate anything you can offer..thank you

Answer
Hello Jason, Yes, it many not be baby fat!  Cute...
The food program you are using sounds very good.  I looked over the foods and feel that the following are lower in fat.

Here are the only two that have the 4.0 % fat...All the other are 4.5 to 5.0 fat.

Homestyle from the Prairie - Ocean Whitefish Stew   new!
INGREDIENTS: Fish Broth, Cod, Chicken Liver, Chicken, Egg Whites, Barley, Potato Starch, Carrots, Oat Fiber, Egg Product...
CALORIES: 138 per 5.5 oz can,   PROTEIN: 8.5% (min),   FAT: 4.0% (min)

Homestyle from the Prairie - Seafood Stew   new!
INGREDIENTS: Fish Broth, Salmon, Chicken Liver, Chicken, Barley, Shrimp, Crab, Egg Whites, Potato Starch, Carrots...
CALORIES: 141 per 5.5 oz can,   PROTEIN: 8.0% (min),   FAT: 4.0% (min)

Healthy Snacks:

Air-popped popcorn, non-salted and non-buttered ( add a small sprinkle of parmesan cheese:

Broccoli

Cooked green beans-

Also, you may want to start him on a good Supplement - eating a low calorie diet will diminish his vitamins... Try NuVET Feline formula/
here is the link:
Use order code 81098 / You can't buy it at any store: only thru the Manufacturer with a VET / Breeder code.
You mix a small amount, of the NuVET feline, into the food each day.

I wish you luck - You may want to give 3 small feedings per day... It may help him to feel full.

Let me know how things go!
