Limping Cat

Question
My 9-year-old cat has been limping for 10 days.  The limping came on suddenly (I noticed it at night when I got home from work and she was not limping that morning).  It is her front, right paw.  I took her to the vet on the 2nd day, and she could find nothing wrong with her, and we decided to not take xrays, since we could still move her joints and there was no swelling.  She sent me home with some anti-inflamatory in syringes.  Her limping has gotten worse, and she slept upstairs by herself last night instead of with me, which is a sign, I think, that she is in pain.  So, I dropped her off at the vet this morning for xrays.  They just called and said that the xrays are all clear, and that they hear a slight bit of crunching in her shoulder, but it only happened once.  They now think it might be a pinched nerve and are going to send me home tonight with some muscle relaxers.  I am in the process of adopting a kitten, as well.  Do you have any thoughts or any ideas what else I could try with my cat's limping?  Also, is adopting the other kitten a good idea?
Thanks, Teresa

Without the benefit of a physical exam I am unable to tell you the cause of your cat's limping.

You may want to wait until you can determine the cause of your cat's limping before you adopt another cat. Another cat is added expense and your present kitty may need medical attention that may be added expense.
