scabs on upper front legs

Question
I have a black lab retriever. Recently I have noticed that there is a scab like abrasion on the top part of each leg. It looks just like a scab about 1 1/2 in round. The dog doesn't doesn't seem to be bothered by it and he walks ok but they have been there for quite a while. He didn't injur himself as far as I know we walk about 1 mile a day but the other times he stays in the house. Could this be caused by an insect or is it an infection of some type? the color of the scab is a dark brown. otherwise there doesn't seem to be anything abnormal about them. Any help on this matter will be most appreciative? thanks Don rago.

Answer
Hi Don!  From what you have told me, I would assume that this is just a hot spot or skin irritation.  I would take him to your veterinarian where they will clip and clean the abrasions with surgical cleaning solution and will send you home with some antibiotics and some antibiotic ointment.  This should clear up very shortly with this treatment.
Please let me know how it goes and give that labby nose tons of kisses for me!  I'm a HUGE fan of labs:)
Take care!
