Question
We recently adopted a retired Greyhoud.  She is a great dog. Smart and all around good natured. I do have an issue. I work out of my home, so I am home all day. If I need to go out at all, she always poops or occassionally will pee inside.  Thiis is even after walkeing her first.  Any help?
Thanks,
Bill

Answer
Hi Bill. Often times, dogs with separation anxiety will become so worked up about their owners leaving the home, that they will impulsively urinate and defecate.  There really is no way to stop this, unfortunately, as the dog may not even know she is doing this. You may, however, find it helpful to crate train her, as a dog will rarely eliminate waste in their crates.  If she would make a mess in her crate, it's a lot easier to clean up than on your carpeting. There are some medications that your veterinarian can dispense to calm your dog when she needs to be left at home...but most of these medications cause sleepiness and "spaciness" and should only be used as a last resort.
I hope this helps!
