shih-tzu poop problem

Question
i have an 8 month old shih-tzu female and she is in heat currently. She has been in heat probably 4 days and everything has been fine until now. Now when we take her outside to use the potty she cries and yelps when she tries to go poo. When she urinates she is fine but only when she tries to poo is when she yelps. What could be causing this? I thought of what a groomer does to release fecal matter by gently squeezing the anus and i tried this and some liquid did come out but she still yelped and cried when she tried to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Well I have never heard of this being a problem but it could be due to what she is eating or it could be from the swelling she has going on.

If you think it's her anal glands then you should take her to the vets to have them expressed. Don't attempt to do that your self unless you know how to do it.

The vet can show you how to do it properly so that you don't hurt her. I hope that you are planning on getting her spayed right after her heat. She can be spayed in about 18 days. That way if she is having problems that will alleviate that as well as protecting her from future breast cancers and pyrometra.

Call your vet if she continues to cry like this and get her in soon. This is not normal even for anal gland issues.
