Question
My cat adopted us about a year ago, he belongs to our neighbors but he left and moved in with us and we have small dashhound/lab mix dog. He is an indoor/outdoor cat. He has been "fixed" but he does sometimes fight with his son. I keep his shots up to date and of course he gets Advantage for fleas once a month for the prevention of fleas/ticks/heartworms. I think he may have an upset stomach because he is not eating as much as usual (he weighs 17.5 pounds...not fat just a big muscular boy). He eats small amounts, drinks, goes to potty, comes to be petted, purrs, and of course bites when not getting his way. He stays in at night but comes and goes in the day and he will catch the occasional bug or bird but does not eat them.Is it okay to give him a tiny dose of Pepto Bismal in a dropper and 1/2 of a baby aspirin to help him feel better? Thank-you for your time, Terri

Answer
No. Aspirin and pepto bismol are both toxic to cats. Pepto has aspirin in it. (Salicylic acid is aspirin).

Cats are prone to going through stages of eating less. Unless he is vomiting, is really lethargic or has diarrhea, he is fine. Check to see if he is eating lizards, as these can make them feel sick even if they are eating. The lizards contain Avidan which binds with B vitamins and can literally starve the cats to death.

Remove all lizards from him or keep him inside for a while. You can ask your vet for a bottle of Val tonic which will replace the B vitamins he is losing.
