Question
Hello, my dog hurt his paw about 2 weeks ago and has been hopping around ever since. The vet has told us that he has arthritus, but now it looks like his toe  is broken. Is there anything i can do to help him? He is 12 years old

Answer
Hi Beth!  Your poor dog!  What happened that hurt his paw to begin with?  There really is no cure for a broken toe.  It either has to heal on it's own or be removed.  Usually it will heal in time, on it's own.  There are many arthritis medications you can get from your veterinarian that will help with pain and promote healing.  These medications are: Rimadyl, Glycoflex and Etogesic.
If you would rather give him over the counter medications, you can get some at your local Vitamin Store.  These are: Boveine Cartlidge, Shark fat pills, and Flax Seed Oil.  You may want to start with the Flax Seed Oil.  By putting some of this over his food, you will be helping to lubricate his joints and organs so that everything runs smoothly.  The Boveine Cartlidge helps promote cartlidge growth and the Shark Fat Pills help to smooth the joints and promote healthy growth as well.  I had a dog who passed away 2 years ago, at the ripe old age of 18 years and 3 months.  She was a border collie and just so wonderful, but had arthritis at the age of 13 so badly that she could not even walk up the steps.  It was very rare, but she had such a terrible reaction to the medication the vet gave her, that she almost died.  We were then advised to put her to sleep.  Well, being that I had her most of my life, I could not put her to sleep.  I did a lot of research and found the boveine cartlidge, shark fat pill and flax seed oil.  I decided that I didn't have anything to lose and tried it.  Two weeks to a month after giving my Jenna this, she could walk up the steps...then run up and down the steps.  It made her feel so good, it was almost as though it was reversing her age.  Like I said, she lived to 18 years old and was running up and down the steps the day before she died in her sleep.  I have found these natural medications so helpful, that I always recommend them and I have found that the results are always great.  If you are interested in trying this, please feel free to ask more questions and I would also need your dog's weight so I could give you the dosages.
I truly hope that this information has been helpful.  Please give that boy some kisses for me and tell him to get better really soon!
