Chihuahua Rash  

chihuahua rash   My Dog has been scratching for the past 5 days and broke out in a rash yesterday. I took her straight to the vets and they gave her a couple of injections saying she mustve had an allergic reaction to something. They gave her some type of benadryl and something to make sure she doesnt get infected from scratching. I have a round of antibiotics as well for her to take. Shes a little 8Ib Chihuahua and doesnt eat dog food. The only thing different I have given her has been new Ol Roy treats (twisted bacon type). Last night was the first night shes slept since Friday but woke up today and the rash has spread and looks worse. What should i do?

This does look like some type of allergic reaction.  Besides the benadryl being given by mouth, she may need a steroid shot that can last for 10 days to 2 weeks.  This does not look infected from the pictures, so I am not sure how much the antibiotic will help. In addition, you should be washing this area with a detergent (not a soap) daily to remove anything that could possibly be on the skin.  Discontinuing her new treats may help if she is sensitive to something in the new treat.
