dog castration

hi!
is dog castration painful?
can it be done at any age (9 yrs)?
does the dog suffer if he's not castrated and doesn't get to mate???

Yes, castration can be done at any age and it does have health benefits including decreased chance of prostate infections and cancer as well decreased male marking, roaming and aggression behaviors.  If your dog develops a prostate problem, part of treatment is castration.  Therefore, it is better to prevent the problem than have to treat it because at that point he will be in pain from prostate problems.  He will not suffer in any way from not mating.

Mild discomfort will occur with any surgery but pain medication can be given if your dog is sore.
