Anal Gland Removal

Question
Our vet removed the anal glands from our miniature schnauzer in August after they became hoplessley impacted.  In December, the dog was still acting like his "behind" was bothering him.  The doctor looked at him again and said she found a 3rd anal gland.  She removed the "third gland" with another surgery.  We believe the dog has pretty well healed from the surgery.  However, now he growls, barks and nips at his "behind".  The doctor told us the dog believes he still has anal glands and that he is just having behavior issues.  We never had this probelm before the surgeries.  Have you ever heard of a third anal gland or the dog exhibiting strange behavior due to psychological effects of the surgery?  The dog is genrally quiet when he is in his kennel (usually lying down).  But, when he is outside of his kennel, he spends most of his time trying to bark at and poke his nose at his behind.  It seems apparent that he has some type of discomfort, but we are unsure what to do about it.  Can you offer any suggestions?

Answer
There are only 2 anal glands. Often when they are removed, the entire gland is not removed and it can cause problems again. However, there are numerous perianal glands and they can be infected or inflammed. If your vet has a laser, he can ablate these areas, which offers more complete destruction.
