Question
Hello, I have an older dog that has leaking breasts. The substance appears to be milky and at times is heavy. Is this mastitis and if so how is it treated?

Answer
Is this dog lactating and feeding puppies? Is she spayed? Is she over 8 and not spayed?

I need to know the above. Leaking breasts in older, unspayed dogs can be a sign of mammary cancer and this is something a vet needs to see and diagnose. Dogs that are not lactating rarely get mastitis. It is an inflammation of the teats but it is normally caused by the teats getting too full of milk, etc.

She needs to see a vet and soon.
