Question
My 9-year old golden retriever has a mushy moveable mass on her chest. I plan on going to he vet but I'd like to know if I should be prepared to get bad news?
Thank you,
jr

Answer
Most mushy masses are not bad news but cancer does come in many forms Julie.

Golden's do tend to get 'bad' masses but usually these are either internal or they are bone related and hard.

Mushy masses can be lipomas, or fatty tumors most of the time. Melanomas can be softer but they are not common on the chest.

Go with the notion that things will be what they are and that you will deal with it when you know. Worry won't help it or change a thing.

I hope it's just a simple lipoma. Please let me know what you do find out if you would. I will pray for the best.
