1 yr old german shpherd female

hi there,

I have 1 yr old german shephered female outdoor , and lately she has 4 hot spots on her body, look red and bad, also she weight about 63pounds and evryboyd is telling me that she is skinny, can you please advise on what to do for hotspots and weight?

Hot spots or pyotraumatic dermatitis are a result of bacterial infection of the skin.  Shepherds are one of the most common breeds for hot spots and these can be related to allergies so if she has not been tested for allergies I would recommend having your veterinarian do so.  Make sure that she stays dry as dampness helps perpetuate bacterial growth.

In regards to the weight, she is still growing and may not fill out until closer to 2 years of age.I she has not been checked for worms recently I would have this done, but otherwise I would not be overly concerned by her present weight.
