Low sodium treats

Question
Hello!  My 10 year old Shih Tzu is being treated for CHF.  In January he was treated for a cough, and a Grade II heart murmur was discovered.  Last Tuesday (March 10th) he had his shots updated and his annual well check.  Our vet was impressed by his healthy weight, eyes, teeth, body structure, and said he sounded good.  She listened to his heart and said that he had a slight Grade II murmur, which she said she was not concerned about because his rhythm was regular and that because he is 10 yrs old, he may have a stiffening valve causing some regurgitation.  He is having an echocardiogram on Sunday the 22nd.  In addition to medications, he was placed on physical activity restriction and a low sodium senior diet.  I have several low sodium dog foods to choose from, but I was wondering if there are any low sodium dog TREATS that we could give him.  His favorite treats are Pupperoni and Marrow Bones.  Any suggestions??  Thank you for your time!

Answer
the best low sodium treat is to give some real food - meat, vegetables, fruits. What is best for people, especially ill people - fresh organic food or processed food made from who knows what? Most cities have local bakers who make treats for dogs and so you can ask the amount of salt in them. The best senior diet is fresh  meat and , not low sodium processed.

I do not have my regular notes that I put in these answers, so please read any of the other answers to learn about how your dog (who is going down hill fast) can live a long (up to 20 for Shih Tzus)  and healthy life, even with a mild murmur.  No more vaccines. Feed a raw meat diet. Work with an integrative veterinarian - www.theAVH.org - homeopathy(some can help you by phone), www.AHVMA.org (general holistic - may find a local person), www.ivas.org & www.tcvm.com - acupuncture.

Hope he enjoys his treats.
