on neutering, does it hurt them and could it possiblely calm him down a little?

Please answer
Thank you for your time
Linda

Would you please give me your oponion about neutering. Does it hurt them? Could it possible calm him down a little? He is a beautiful dog and I would not want to hurt him.

Thank you so much for your answer to the eating problem. yes I do give him treats but it is because he does something I tell him, I give him treats and a pat and tell him "good boy."  He is doing so much better. I have noticed that when it is cooler, He eats better. He is not poor or loosing weight, so I feel he is ok.

Thanks again
Linda

If the dog is losing weight or not thriving, then his diet may be an issue.  Some dogs just need to eat 3-4 times a week.  We train them to eat once or twice daily like we eat, but that is not necessary.  Do you give him treats that he may prefer over his food?

I have a kennel in my veterinary clinic and we have the problem of some dogs that do not want to eat traditional (and inexpensive) dog foods.  We switched foods until we found Purina's ProPlan food.  It is a chicken based food that hardly any dog will refuse.

Answer
Sorry that I didn't answer the neutering question.

Yes neutering will calm him down.  Obviously it also prevents testicular tumors.  As far as behavior, if he has bad habits, neutering will not help.  However, if his behavior is due to things like libido, neutering will certainly halp calm that down.
