temporary jaw locking and grinding

Question
My dog Emma will grind her teeth and sometimes her jaw will lock for a short time. What could cause this to happen? This happened about 2 years ago and went after a day or so. An help would be appreciated.

Thanks Doug

Answer
Teeth grinding in dogs is usually a signal of pain. I would have her jaw looked at by your vet next week and have them determine if it's her jaw causing the problem or her neck.

But constant grinding can be associated with pain that is located elsewhere, such as hip or back pain. Even joint pain in her legs can cause this.

In any case, you should have her looked at.
