cats grooming habit

My two year old female domestic short hair cat gooms herself so much that her fur is now thin on her legs and haunches.
How can I stop this habit?

Hi Jeanne!
This may be a behavioral problem (referred to as "over-grooming")or this may be caused by itching.  I would definitely recommend a vet visit to be certain that there are no external parasites hosting on her skin.  Your veterinarian will also be able to help if this is a behavioral problem by prescribing medication specifically for problems like this.
