Question
We have a litter of 3 week old puppies, and the mother just died.  We would like some advice on how to raise these pups.  There are 5 of them.  Do you have any advice on any puppie formulas.  They were still weaning from their mother.  They can see and are starting to move, but that's about it.  I don't think they have gone to the bathroom on their own either.  Any info would be great.

Answer
Hi Jason!

Congratulations on the puppies!Sorry about the loss of the mother dog.

As for puppy formulas, you can feed them Petmilk and eggyoke with some Karo Syrup added to the formula. You can feed them these formulas until they are 4 weeks old, because that's when they get weaned from their mother.

As for the peeing, you should let them outside and follow them around. If that doesn't work, try getting the neighbors dog over or a friends dog over. Then, let the neightbors or friends dog pee when he feels like it.But make sure the puppies will watch and learn how to go.Again, follow them around to see if they pee.If they still don't pee after all that,a trip to the vet will be needed to make sure their health is okay.

When urine remains in the bladder for a long time, any bacteria tht happens to be floating around have more time to multiply, possibly to infection-causing levels.A pet that urinates only two times a day is more likely to develop an infection than one that goes ten times a day.
It's a good idea to let your pet outside every few hours to flush away bacteria before they cause problems.

Also,it's a good idea to take all your puppies in for a good vet check-up.Your vet will take care of shots, any health problems and declawing if needed!

I hope this has been helpful and I wish you the best of luck! Please keep me posted and give those puppies millions of kisses for me!Sending wagging tails your way!
