Gerbil fighting

Question
I believe my gerbils got into a fight and what started out to be a wound on his stomach area appears to now have something protruding from it.  The animal is still active but I need to know if it will heal on its own or what do I do.

Hi Marian!It sounds as though the wound on your gerbil's abdomen area has become abcessed. The only way to cure an abcess would be by taking you pet to the veterinarian for some antibiotics/antibiotic ointment. This will not be able to heal on it's own without antibiotic intervention.
