Question
our 10 month old dog was neutered this morning , now he can't keep anything down and has puked at least six or seven times this evening. We are really concerned, we would call the vet but they are closed. Do you think it is a reaction to the anesthetic. How can we help our pooch.

Answer
He shouldn't have been fed until tomorrow morning. The anesthetic can make them very sick for 24 hours. All your dog should get is some water and even limited quantities of that.

Give him some Pepto Bismol if you can get a couple of tablespoons down him. Don't give him anymore food and take up his water tonight also.

Tomorrow only give him half his normal amount of food. Then later if he keeps that down feed him the second half in the late afternoon or evening.

If he is still vomiting in the morning call the vet. We have traditionally kept the dogs over night which eliminates this problem. I wish more vets would still do that.
