Anxiety?

Question
I recently split with my live in girlfriend. She had a 11 year old daughter and a 11 month old "Schnoodle" that we had since January. My 10 year old White German Sheppard has been chewing at his rear, licking the fur right to the skin and till it is raw, ever since they left, but only when I leave him alone. His last vet check 2 months ago gave him an excellent bill of health. If I take him everywhere with me, the sores heal up right away, if I dont take him with me, he chews at himself almost as soon as I leave the door. I was told that it is Mange, but I dont think so because if it was, I believe he would be chewing at himself all of the time. I think it is Anxiety. If it is, how do I stop him from chewing his rear quarter?

Answer
He may have something called separation anxiety.  There is amedication called Clomicalm that may help.  Check with your vet.  If there is mange, that is easily diagnosed witha skin scraping.  If he has allergies, these are easily treated with cortisone drugs.
