Answer
There is no 'alternative' until you get her spayed. Surely your vet talked to you about having her spayed before now?
Most dogs start their first estrus, or heat cycle, at 6 months of age.
That is why we recommend having them spayed, or 'fixed' as some people call it, before 6 months of age.

She will be in heat for 21 days. Since she is now bleeding, she will be in heat for another week because they are in heat with just swelling for one week, bleeding for one week and then just swelling that starts to subside for one more week. Now you MUST keep her inside right now as this is the most vulnerable time for her to be bred. If she gets outside she could literally be raped by any male dog that smells her.
And male dogs can smell a female in heat for over 3 miles.

So as soon as she stops bleeding and the swelling goes down, you can get her spayed. Make the appointment NOW, however, so she is ready at that time.

The only thing you can do is clean up after her or buy her some of those napkins they have at the pet stores for dogs in heat.
They will not stop her from getting bred so don't think that they will!
Make sure you only keep them on her until she needs to potty, then take them off and when she is done put them back on. They only bleed about 6-7 days.

Make that appointment!!
