Dental for senior dog

Question
I have a 14 y/o collie. She is deaf and has degenerative myelopathy, but she's doing quite well, considering. I'm wondering about the risks of a dental at this stage. Her breath is smelling progressively worse. I noticed a few days ago, that she has lost one front tooth (on top) and the other one is very loose. She is still eating well. Doesn't appear to be in pain. Her last dental was four yrs ago. I am anxious abt the prospect of anesthesia, given her age and the degenerative myelopathy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Answer
Hello Jane: Yes, you should be concerned about putting this old girl under for dental.  I wouldn't do it unless there was no other choice.  Just my opinion... too dangerous for her.
Your vet will do Pre-op testing to check the liver and heart.  I still think it is a procedure that I would skip.

Again, this is just my opinion based on my feelings. I am sure you will get other opinions that are opposite of mine.

Good Luck with this!

Make sure you are feeding a good quality food and supplement.
NuVET plus is a great Immune System Booster that can help your old gal.  Only costs about .55 cents per day for NuVET Plus wafers or powder ...
