Question
My name is Megan and I am needing help with my cat. We adopted him from ordinary when he was 9 months old. He recently was fixed and had all the required shots he needed. He is very big cat and when I say big I mean big. He's very active and we even jokingly call him a dog. Lol. But we have noticed he's losing weight and you can feel his hip bones very easily. He eats wet foods at dinner time, and has dry food open to him daily. This past week he's been eating a cheaper kind of food so if getting a better food would help,  do you have a prefrence? He is allowed outside but bever stays out. We just thought he was runnibg it off or something. Please help me..... thanks Megan

Answer
Weight loss in a cat can be serious.  There is most likely some disease that is preventing him from holding his weight. Your vet may want to test him for parasites, blood tests to see if there is any internal organ problems, like pancreatitis, kidney disease or liver disease.  Some cats do not absorb their food well, so they lose weight even if they are eating.  Some cats have thyroid tumors causing them to burn their food off faster than normal (hyperthyroidism).
