QuestionMy cat has developed what seems to be an air bubble under her skin. When you run your hand across her back you can hear a popping or snapping noise. You can also see the bubble when she is lying in certain positions. She seems to be in no pain. As a matter of fact, it doesn't seem to bother her at all. Any suggestions?
AnswerHi Megan!
What you are hearing is called subcutaneous emphezema or crepitus.
Many things can cause it:
1. trauma
2. injection of sq fluids over time
3. metabolic process in the cat
OR other.
go ahead and call your vet for an appt to have it checked out. it is painless, but you would rather know if something was going on with her.
Hope this helps.
