drooling and not drooling

Question
QUESTION: Our 9 year old male cat has always been a drooler (drooling when being petted..clearly because he's happy).  We hated the drooling but now, he has stopped drooling, and we are worried!  About 2 weeks ago he had a bout of diarrhea and I got an "herbal" remedy (touted to balance digestion issues) from Petco.  Put 10 drops on his food for 3 meals.  I stopped because he clearly didn't like it.  But, the diarrhea stopped and soon after that we noticed that the drooling stopped.  Should we be worried?  His appetite is a bit down but otherwise he seems happy and he is urinating fine.

ANSWER: Since I don't know what was in the herbal remedy you gave him it's hard to say if that is the reason he quit drooling, but the coincidence seems pretty clear.

I don't have a Petco around here so I can't go look it up. I have a cat that drools when petted also, so I know what you mean. This might be temporary and the drooling might start back up after the effects of the herb wear off. If it's in his system this could take a week or two.

So the question is, do you want the drooling back? I am partially joking, as I know it can be messy. Send me the ingredients in these drops and maybe I can shed more light on the subject.

QUESTION: Well, needless to say, we don't really want the drooling back!

The product is made by HomeoPet (they have a website homeopet.com).  The ingredients are: Veratrum Album 6c&30c, Argentum Nitricum 6c&30c, Colocynthis 6c&30c, Pulsatilla 6c&30c, Hypericum 6c&30c, Arsenicum Album 6c & 30c in 20% USP alc. in purified water.

The dosage directions indicated that we should put 10 drops in each meal (3 times per day) and to decrease dosage when symptoms improve.  As I say, we put the drops in for 3 meals total (1.5 days) and then stopped.

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Well other than the hypericum, which is used for depression, I cannot see anything that would do it. Maybe the hypericum made him feel better emotionally so that he didn't have the drooling trigger. I don't think drooling cats are depressed at all, but that is the only herbal I know about in the mix.

I watched many of their videos on the website and it looks like this homeopathy is pretty good. I have always believed in it myself and have used a homeopathy cold tablet for years that keeps them from becoming full blown colds.

Let me know if the drooling starts again at some point. It would be interesting to see how long it takes.
