QuestionMy miniature schnauzer is 7 years old and not been spayed. Lately I have noticed a few of her nipples are bigger and have white crusts and are split at the bottom. She has not been clipped lately so they have not been cut by mistake and she is generally lively and eating well.
AnswerWell seven is the age they can start showing signs of mammary tumors.
Dogs that are not spayed are very prone to getting these and if left to grow they become very hard to remove not to mention they can metastasize. Mammary tumors are breast cancers.
She needs a visit to the vet. She might have nothing but better to know then to wish you hadn't waited.
