Cats Throwing Up

Question
I understand that cats will have hairballs from time to time. I have two cats and sometimes right after they eat, they throw up. Is it that they ate too fast or is that when hairballs make thier exit? At times, the vomitus has pieces of green grass which they have ingested.

My next question is:  Once a cat  has had an upper respiratory infection, are they more likely to have repeat occurences in the future?

Answer
Yes, cats will vomit hairballs on occasion.  If they are having a lot of hairballs, then a hairball remedy such as Laxatone should be given several times a week or switch to a hairball diet.

When cats each grass, they will normally vomit because they are not herbivores and can not digest the grass.

If they are eating too fast, then I would recommend switching to a bigger size kibble.  I have had good luck with Nutro Natural Complete Weight Management for my cats and several patients.

As far as respiratory infection...depending on the severity it could have caused damage to the sinuses which does make them more suspectible to future infections OR the infection may have been due to Herpes Virus which will remain silent and the recur during periods of stress.  This is one of the things we do vaccinate against as it is highly contagious between cats (but not to people).  If you cat is experiencing chronic respiratory problems, then an immune stimulant such as Transfer Factor would be a good supplement to start.
