Question
Hi! My cat Molly is having a problem i am hoping is not serious... She came in and tried to poop on my couch but when she tried only a small amount of stinky brown slime came out. i carried her to the litterbox but she wouldn't go in, she just stood with her paws on the box pushing and crying ( a small amount of the slimy brown poop came out again. She's young and healthy her only problems have only been her attitude, but this does not seem the same. Please let me know if you know of anything i can do to help relieve her, will this pass on its own? should i be concerned?

Answer
She must have eaten something that is causing her some diarrhea issues. They will strain with diarrhea also, not just constipation. So the diarrhea is making her feel like she has to go when she has nothing in there.

Does she get outside and eat birds and such? Even eating lizards can cause an issue.
Her diet could also be the culprit depending on what she eats. My cats have always eaten Science Diet and they don't get diarrhea as a result. But cheap grocery store foods are so full of dyes and garbage that a lot of cats have some digestive problems from it.

One thing that causes this is that their formulas for making the food vary from batch to batch and when you do that it usually causes diarrhea in a pet that is used to eating one type of food. So the same brand is like a new food due to the cheaper ingredients they made that batch with.

We have seen many cats and dogs with diarrhea from the colors and quality of store brand foods such as Meow Mix etc.

Get her on a solid, consistent food you can trust will be the same all the time. Science Diet is fixed formulated so it never changes. Cats on this food are silky soft and have gorgeous coats and no digestive issues.

For now you might want to mix some boiled rice into her food but I would think about switching her to a better diet slowly.
