Possibly Sick Whippet?

18 15:02:06

Question
My 10 year old female Whippet has never been very active, but lately (the past 5-6 days), she's been really unactive. As in, she rarely leaves her bed. Normally, when I come home, she'll trot over happily to come say hello and wag her tail. You have to understand, this dog is absolutely attached to me and follows me around CONSTANTLY. But now, for the past couple of days, she hasn't even gotten up. She's increasingly stiff and also seems to be favoring her front left leg/paw. Also, she's had a loss of appetite and is getting skinnier than normal, and also has had goopy eyes, with clear fluid coming out. Should I take her to the vet? Or is she just getting old?
Thanks! This dog means everything to me and is the biggest part of my life right now.

Answer
Cheryl,

While there are many diseases that can happen during the senior years, old age itself is not a disease.  Your Whippet sounds ill.  I would recommend taking her to the veterinarian as soon as possible.  Sick animals have a difficult time communicating their symptoms to people but when they dont eat, and are lethergic they are saying loud and clear they need to see a doctor.

Good Luck to you both
