puppy with one testicle not dropping

Question
I am considering buying a 4.5 month old Shih Tzu puppy. The breeder told me that one testicle had not dropped yet and said since the puppy is going to be neutered this wouldn't be a problem.

I decided to google information about this and found out that neutering would be more difficult and more expensive.

Should I pass on buying this puppy?  My concern is it may be difficult for the vet to find the testicle that hasn't dropped yet. I have concerns buying a puppy that could have problems right away

Answer
Most all vets have neutered dogs with undecended testicles. Yes, it's a different surgery as the vet has to go into the abdomen to get the testicle out. Recovery is typically uneventful.

This requires an incision in the abdomen and the cost is usually more like a spay. If left inside, these testicles often become cancerous later in life.

Unless you have the money for the added cost of the neutering, I would pass on this puppy as well. Dogs with undescended testicles should NEVER be bred as it is a hereditary.

It is a very undesirable trait. The breeder you are looking at the dogs with should NOT be breeding the male that sired this puppy.
