golden retriever puppys front legs.

Question
My 8 month old golden retriever puppies front legs have issues...mainly the left one is pronated outwards, but the right one seems to be also. It's on his front legs on what you would call the wrist of a human that his legs start going outwards, so when he sits his paws are in a V shape.  I took him to the vet and they said they can't do anything but wait to see if he grows out of it and that those growth plates on the wrist close at 8-10 months.  His wrists haven't improved in fact I think they have gotten worse, so my question is what will happen? Will he get arthritis in his wrists young?  Around what age if so?
Thanks,
Savannah

Answer
If this dog isn't up on his pasterns by 8 months old there is something wrong with his legs, his skeletal muscles or both.

You need to get him to a specialist or an orthopedic vet. If you bought this dog from a breeder you also need to contact them and let them know that this puppy is not right. They need to stop breeding the parents of this dog.

Diet has a lot to do with this as well. He is still young enough that he might strengthen these legs but you still need to consult a vet about them. A different vet.

You should also have him on a large breed diet like Science Diet large breed puppy. That has a LOT to do with helping him get past this.

So find a vet to get a consultation with and then get him on a proper diet.

I am not sure if this is the same thing you are seeing, but here is a web page with pictures of dogs with the most common form of CSS.

I hope that he gets straightened out soon. Please let me know how he does.
