Answer
Sam,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.  My internet went down and I have had no access for a few days.

First, I'd like you to find either an emergency clinic or a vet that is on call and have their number available to you at all times.  With a pet, it pays to be prepared.  Next time you have a question or a situation that scares you like that give them a call.  You may have to bring your pet in to be examined.  But, in my experience, it is better to be safe than sorry and seek help right away if you feel that your pet is in pain or in a life threatening situation.

Second,  Painkillers help but depending on the source of the pain, they dont completely eliminate pain.  Plus any animal can have a reaction to any medication and those reactions can not be predicted.  It sounds like you may have had a little bit of both.

Third,  I hope that by now you and your puppy are feeling better and have the situation under control.

Good luck to you both
