blood stains

Question
my 6 y/o indoor russian blue has been leaving clear liquid with blood stains on shoes, purses etc, that are on the floor today. He is using his  cat box also. His penis is viable and red, he is licking it.  He does not have urinary accidents. The 'leak' appears to be coming from the area around his penis rather than rectum. He is not squatting like he does when he urinates, he just sits up reqular and when he leaves the area, the stain is there. Any thoughts?

Answer
Does he come and go a lot in his litter box? Is she making loud noises, like he is in pain, while urinating? It looks like he may have what we refer as FUS (Feline Urologic Syndrome ) or as FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease). This is usually caused by stones or struvite or oxalate crystals in the urinary tract. If this is the case, it is a serious problem, it may cause urinary obstruction leading to more serious complications like azotemia, renal failure, etc. Another possibility is an urinary tract infection. But you should take her to the vet ASAP to get checkd for FLUTD, because if it is, it can be a serious problem like I said. Your vet will be able to tell you about the problem after checking the urinary bladder, and he/she will probably need to put in a urethral catheter and test the urine sample. Also some blood tests may be needed to check if the levels of BUN, creatinine, etc are elevated. But please take him to the vet ASAP, this may be serious. Please let me know how it goes.
