cat cold?

Question
My cat seems to have a cold. He's been sneezing, has a runny nose, and is off his food.  He's still drinking water, but hasn't really eaten anything in a few days and seems pretty lethargic.  I'm a nurse, so I've been trying to keep him warm and in a quiet place, but I don't know what else to do.  Our vet is out of town until Friday or I would take our cat there today... can you give me any ideas for helping him feel better? I'd appreciate any advice you could give me.. thanks!

Sincerely,
Melissa Pengiel

Answer
He most likely is running a fever which is causing the lethargy and lack of appetite.  In these cases, antibiotics are needed.  I would not wait until Friday to see your vet--call another vet and get him an appointment today or tomorrow.  The longer he goes without eating the more likely complications will develop especially fatty liver syndrome.   You can try to syringe feed meat baby food into him as well as some plain pedialyte.
