Question
I currently have 2 chocolate labs (Reno is 1yr old and Alex is 10). Alex is in very poor health and we are having her put down. Reno has been with Alex since he was 8 weeks old (they sleep together). Is it better to have the vet take care of everything or should we bring Alex home after and put her in their room for Reno to find and recognize that she is gone?

Answer
It is a personal decision.   Reno will know she is gone when she doesn't come home but regardless if he sees her body or not he will still search for her for awhile and may go through a period of depression.  You may want to try some Flower Essences to help ease the transition especially Rescue Remedy and maybe Walnut in this case....Walnut is frequently used for other transition times such as impending death. It is good when the animal's housing is moved or the animal is introduced into a new circumstance. Wonderful to use before there are changes such as teething, breeding, weaning, moving, adjusting to new animals or people, or dying. Walnut helps the animal decide to actually make the changes or to be at peace with changes decided upon by you, the guardian.
