Question
My cock-a-poo is ten years old and has had surgery twice for removal of the above.  We had seen a veterinary dematolgist last year who gave the above diagnosis. Our normal vet said her growths were papillomas. It seems like it is more seasonal since she again has developed numerous growths recently and we are concerned with putting her through surgery again for removal. She also has continual ear problems which I treat with Otomax. I would appreciate any information as to how we might be able to control and treat aside from surgical removal. Aside from growths on various parts of her body the most difficult ones are on 3 of her legs which she has been chewing at. I have wrapped those areas with tape to deter her but that is only a temporary solution. Thank you for any assistance you might provide.

Answer
Sebaceousadenomas are very common in older dogs.THey are benign and if you do nothing, they will get big, but they will not kill your dog. I use a laser to remove them, which is much easier and safer than surgically removing them.  As far as the ears, Otomax should not be used for long and it should only be used in an ear that is clean and free of wax.  Your dog probably has skin and ear allergies, which relates to the seasonality that you relate in her history.
