Question
my friend adopted a kitten from a shelter, they took him to their vets - stool sample - he had a upper respiratory infection & was on antibiotics - the stool sample came back with no problems - but the little guy passes a lot of gas & still has loose stools - he is active & eats well - what could be the cause of his tummy problems

Answer
It could very well be the antibiotics. But don't let one negative stool sample fool you or the vet- he could still be full of worms. He should be wormed once he is off the antibiotics and your friend needs to get some probiotics at the vets office for this little guys tummy. It will help a lot with the problem.

Another could be food. If they are feeding Purina Kitten Chow- DON'T! It is coated in milk and kittens are lactose intolerant after they are weaned.
Never feed anything Kitten Chow!
They should pick up a bag of Science Diet Kitten Growth when they go to the vet's for the probiotics, or get it at a Pet Store. Slowly wean him over to this food instead of what he is on and that will not only help him now, but grow him into a healthy, happy and strong cat.

After one year he can be on Science Diet Adult food. Kitten Growth is specially formulated with essential nutrients to help your friend's kitten get all the nutrition he needs in a very small amount of food.

So pass this on to them. The sooner they get the probiotics and the Science Diet the sooner this kitten will get well.
Don't forget the wormer after his treatment is over!
