Question
I have a 9 year old pug who recently started waking up in the middle of the night and in the middle of his afternoon naps breathing very heavily. It will only last for a few seconds at most a minute and then he will lick his lips a bit and then he goes right back to bed. He does not do anything like this while awake throughout the day , it only happens when he wakes up in the middle of sleeping. I am just wondering if you could have any idea what is could be causing this?

Answer
Stephanie:  I wonder if he stops breathing in his sleep.  Also, he could be waking up after a small seizure???  Sorry, You need to have a vet check him out ASAP...
There are so many medications that can help.  Also, we wouldn't want to loose this boy in the middle of his sleep.

Sorry, I just don't know ....Please see a vet for some blood work.
